Round The World Trip
Lake Tekapo, New Zealand Diary Entry
Date Posted: 01/02/2006
Yesterday Sarah, Bairbre and myself left Queenstown for Dunedin. Arrived in Dunedin and met with a local who Bairbre used to live with in Bondi. Went and did the Cadburys Chocolate Factory tour (which was rubbish) and then the Speights brewery tour (which was really good). In the evening we were invited back to Bairbre's friends house for a BBQ and sampled some real Kiwi hospitality which was really nice :)
Today Sarah and I got the bus to Lake Tekapo. En route to Tekapo the bus stopped off at Baldwin Street (which is officially the steepest street in the world, it's in the Guinness Book Of Records), Moeraki Beach (where there are giant round boulders scattered about which look like dinosaur eggs!) and and also at Lake Pukaki with its bright blue water and views of Mount Cook.
The town here at Tekapo is tiny (if you can call it a town) but the scenery is fantastic and it would be a really good place to chill out for a few days. I had a bit of a wander round around the lake and then went back to the hostel for a BBQ with some of the rest of the guys from the bus... all in all a good evening.
