Round The World Trip
Phuket, Thailand Diary Entry
Date Posted: 05/12/2005
Got ferry in the afternoon from Phi-Phi to Phuket. Transferred fro Phuket ferry terminal to my hotel for one night of luxury, I had splashed out on a really nice hotel on Patong Beach (huge king-size bed, telly, fridge and patio doors opening onto a poll with a sunken bar and a waterfall!).
Bar and restaurant in the hotel looked a little pricey for my liking (been used to spending a couple of hundred bhat on a meal the last few days) so I decided to take a trip to the local mini-mart to get some beers for my fridge :)
Wandered down to Patong Beach for an hour or so to watch the sunset before heading back to the hotel.
Decided to get the hotel bus into town to get some food and ended up tagging along with and old Swedish couple who took me to a really great Thai restaurant where they got me dinner (if you ever read this thanks ever so much!). Phuket was rather quiet this evening, or at least more quiet than usual because it was the kings birthday and so bars were not allowed to sell alcohol, did see some fireworks though. Got the bus back to the hotel and then cranked open a beer and sat on the edge of the pool for a bit with my feet dangling in the water (bloody traveller!).
Went back to my room for a bit to watch some telly but after a short while and a few beers later I heard the sound of someone in the pool, popped my head out the door to see what was going onto see a guy signalling me to come in! I didn't need too much encouragement as I had been dying to go in the pool since getting to the hotel and even more so since it had "closed" for the evening (it was fairly late by now).
Anyway I ended up swimming about and jumping in and out of the water with a mad South Korean guy called Sukgeun while helping him to drink a bottle of Korean rice wine. Fantastic! Met his wife and her friend ... it was another one of those totally random nights!
