Round The World Trip
Khao Sok, Thailand Diary Entry
Date Posted: 25/11/2005
Wednesday (23rd) we made our way to Khao Sok National Park where we would be staying for two days. We all had different types of accommodation here ranging from tree houses to giant tent type things, it was really cool! Me, Stu and Steve are in a little house up in the trees... fantastic! Having to keep an eye open for leeches here though! This place is so remote it's untrue! There are a few shops about and a couple of other places to stay but that is about it.
Went river tubing in the afternoon which was really good fun and basically involves floating down a stream on a great big car tyre inner tube.
Thursday (24th) we just wandered about exploring the area around where we are staying and some of us went into the actual National Park which was really nice. Was hoping to go elephant trekking today but haven't been able to due to the weather, it's been pouring down with rain - but then I guess it would be as it is a tropical jungle / rainforest!
Today we managed to go elephant trekking which was fantastic fun! It was so cool to be able to ride on an elephant and I was so surprised how gentle and careful they were moving about when they are so big! The elephants here were really well looked after and apparently elephant and trainer grow up together from when they are children! I never knew this but elephants are very clean animals and they wont tread in another elephants poo, the poor old trainers have to pick it up and move it out the way!
On the second half of the elephant trek I got to sit right by the elephants head... it was great! Their hair is like bristles though and a bit uncomfortable but it's great having their giant ears flapping about your legs!
Later on today we head to Surat Thani to get the overnight train to Bangkok.
Well I best get off, walk back to my jungle hideaway and get soaked!
