San Francisco, America Diary Entry

Date Posted: 19/02/2006

Got up in the morning and checked out of the hostel as I was getting the shuttle bus later on in the day to San Francisco to surprise who will be visiting her brother there for her birthday.

Headed out in the morning to go and get some photos of some graffiti I had seen the day before and then wandered back to the hostel to make my 12.20pm shuttle. Got stopped en route by some guy asking me if I had ever been approached about doing modelling (I looked for his white stick or guide dog and couldn't see either so I figured he must be mentally unhinged), he showed me his portfolio at a nearby Starbucks I told him I was leaving for San Francisco in about 20 minutes, he gave me his business card and I quickly ran off - business card went in bin a few hours later.

Got back to hostel about 12.00 and some guy was asking who was on the shuttle bus, I told him I had to get my bags and went to storage to pick them up along with an Aussie dude called Dan - went outside to find the bus had buggered off without us! Anyway, the bus got called back to pick us up for a lovely 8 hour drive to San Fran.

Got to the hostel in San Francisco and went to check in, Dan and another guy were in one building myself and some old dude who was on our bus were in another building. This old dude is mute... and deaf and checking in was interesting to say the least, we were both in the same room but there was only one key left, the woman on reception tells me one of us will just have to knock on the room door in the evening to get in, now call me stupid but how do you knock and wake up a deaf person? There are two other people in the room but they are nowhere to be seen, I have to give the deaf mute guy the key as it seems unfair to leave him knocking but at the same time this leaves me up shit creek without a paddle. Everyone else thinks the situation is funny including me - it's like some comedy sketch! Eventually the other key turns up and I feel better knowing I don't have to either try and wake up the deaf guy or 2 strangers I have never met before. Head out that evening for a meal in China Town with Dan and a couple of other lads he met in Los Angeles who were both called Alex.
