Round The World Trip
Yosemite, America Diary Entry
Date Posted: 23/02/2006
Tuesday (21st) spent the day chilling out with the family, went for a picnic and took Moose for a walk. Had a wander around the mall later on in the day and sorted out a few bits to do later on in the week, a generally relaxing day! Late afternoon my uncle and my dad went to pick up a Cadillac for a road trip to Yosemite.
Wednesday (22nd) up bright and early for the road trip to Yosemite. Drove through plenty of interesting scenery stopping along the way at a small town called Turlock for brunch. Went to a diner for brunch that President George Bush visited in 1988! Arrived in Yosemite late afternoon and it quite cold and quite snowy! I was fairly excited to see snow as I missed all the snow at home over Christmas! Checked into hotel and went for a bit of a walk about before heading back to the hotel for dinner and a few drinks. Had to get a pair of snow chains for the car - apparently these are a requirement for the park in these conditions and you can't get in or out without them!
Today we drove into Yosemite Park to Yosemite Valley. Saw El Capitan (the single largest monolith of granite in the world, 3593ft tall), Half Dome, Bridaveil Fall, Yosemite Falls (the tallest waterfall in North America, 2425ft tall), the Indian Village of Ahwahnee and loads of other interesting scenery. All very breathtaking and spectacular! Getting to Bridaveil Fall was quite a challenge as it was pretty much a 15 minute walk on ice! People were slipping all over the place and I eventually made it up there, could have done with a pair snow shoes like we had on Franz Josef! Headed back to the hotel before it got to dark and managed to avoid having to put the snow chains on!
